Huu Bac Quintet 🇨🇦

The Huu Bac Quintet transcends borders with its unique fusion of East and West through, and beyond, the language of traditional music and contemporary jazz. 

Born in Vietnam to parents of Chinese/Vietnamese descent, Huu Bac not only mastered instruments of his homeland - the dan bau (one-string zither) and dan tranh (zither) - but studied erhu (Chinese two-stringed fiddle) at the Beijing Central Conservatory, and spent time in Peru with the group Sonidos Vivos, where he picked up the quena (Andean bamboo flute) and studied Afro-Peruvian music.

Given Bac’s international musical journey, the Quartet’s sound is a vibrant tapestry woven from the rich textures of traditional instruments blended seamlessly with the improvisational spirit and instrumentation of jazz, inviting listeners on a journey that traverses cultures. 

The quintet's genre-defying approach has garnered them widespread acclaim, leading to performances at renowned venues around the globe, from intimate jazz clubs to prestigious festivals. Their adventurous spirit and musical prowess have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, solidifying their status as musical trailblazers.
