Elizabeth Shepherd

Velvety-voiced keyboardist Elizabeth Shepherd arrived on the international scene in 2006 when her debut recording Start To Move was voted one of the top jazz albums of the year by listeners of the influential Gilles Peterson Show on BBC Radio. Since then, the Montreal-based soul-jazz innovator has established herself as one of today’s most alluring and imaginative artists. A classical pianist who came to jazz through her love of old-school hip hop, Shepherd has been hailed as “a jazz virtuoso blessed with a pop sensibility” (Real Detroit Weekly). Elizabeth has a knack for crafting compelling melodies and often infuses her songs with social and political commentary. Along with Esperanza Spalding and Robert Glasper, Elizabeth Shepherd is among the new wave of jazz-influenced musicians bringing the art form to a younger generation of music fans. Shepherd’s catalog of seven original albums has received high marks internationally. Her latest release, Three Things (Pinwheel Music), created during the COVID-19 lockdown, is an ode to life, joy and resilience, and is also considered to be Elizabeth's catchiest and most hip work to date.
