After a stint with the internationally-renowned supergroup Orchestra Baobab, Cheikh Ibra Fam’s solo career – under his own name and his former stage name, Freestyle – has taken audiences around the world by storm with its Afropop blend of funk, soul, and more.

  With a sound rooted in Senegalese traditions, his music is a globetrotting blend of many styles – from reggae, hip hop, funk, and more – and places: In addition to his West-African homeland, there’s the influence of his mother’s Malian roots, as well as the years he spent at the Milan Conservatory (Italy) studying various instruments, and his current Indian-Ocean island home, Reunion Island. His unique sound has seen him named a Radio France International Talent and join legendary record label Putomayo’s World Discovery Program. He’s also a socially-active artist who has collaborated with the UN Refugee Agency, Innovation: Africa, and more. 

He’s also been influenced by his international touring:  not only has he visited our neck of the woods before, but he's gathered local musicians to join him: Backing Cheikh for his North American dates – including the legendary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival – is a powerhouse gang of in-demand Canadian musicians that enhance the cosmopolitan elements of his globe-trotting sounds.
