The Park Siyeon Trio merge the folk music of their South Korean homeland with freely flowing jazz improvisations. Formed by pianist Park Siyeon from Daegu, the trio is completed by bassist Chanok Kim, and drummer Hyogi Kim. The Park Siyeon Trio has no boundaries or concepts with the aim of presenting “All Music For The World”.
In addition, their music celebrates life together with a warmth of expression and they wish to bring attention to national and international environmental problems, social issues and historical events. Thinking only of pure sound, their music is characterized by intense interplay between free jazz melodies meeting Korean composition patterns. The best example of this is the traditional Korean folk song Bird, Bird, Blue Bird, a song from Park Siyeon Trio’s 2nd album, which was selected as the themesong for the ‘Jazz Relay’ project to commemorate World Jazz Day in 2024.
