Formed in 2022, Les Aunties was born out of a desire to showcase the talents of, and inspire confidence among, Chadian women and girls. Initiated by fellow Chadian and Sunfest veteran Afrotronix, and inspired by Les Aunties’ remarkable charisma and life experiences, the project is about more than just producing great music: It uses the power of music to make real change; to celebrate the strengths, talents, dignity, and ambition of Chadian women; and to inspire Chadians to revisit the way they treat and consider women.

Les Aunties had regularly gathered to sing, accompanied by the calabash (percussion), to share and transcend their experiences. The resulting material captures a journey of strong and resilient women, struggling, while thriving, through the challenges inherent in leading lives as independent women.

Afrotronix co-wrote, arranged, directed, and produced their soon-to-be-released album, comprising traditional Sara songs and new compositions.

The band is the first to emerge from the new non-profit organisation, also called Les Aunties, created to celebrate, represent and empower women. In addition to the unique live experience of the band, their work as artists will bring in capital that can be used to reinvest in their own businesses as well as their children's education. Through this multi-dimensional effort, Les Aunties aim to inspire confidence in young women and girls by showing them that it is possible to follow one's dreams and ambitions.
