A new look at tango through Korean eyes, GENA combines the passion of the Argentinian genre with traditional music and instruments. The band’s quest for authentic harmony between seemingly disparate forms results in a joyful experience blending sound, language, culture, and more.

Despite the distance between Korean traditional music and Argentine tango, GENA has found underlying connections: The emotional underpinning of both styles – passion, sorrow, joy, and bittersweet longing – and a natural rhythmic alignment is the foundation upon which to approach the creation of a third way, with instruments native to both worlds: traditional strings, accordion, bass guitar, percussion, flute, and vocals. Atop the musical balancing act is a philosophical mission, to find a way for the rich past, lively present, and evolving, undetermined future of these two music traditions to coexist in one musical space.
