A Caribbean-Colombian experience by way of New York, Grupo Rebolu combines original compositions and arrangements of Afro-Colombian classics to create a musical experience of Colombia’s most famous party: the Carnaval de Barranquilla.

Leaders in the New Colombian Music movement of New York City, their adopted home, the group’s vibrant sound has its roots in the diverse Afrocentric rhythms of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The band’s desire to share the rich musical traditions of their ancestors, and belief that traditional music doesn’t stop evolving, has seen four releases, the most recent of which is 2022’s Mi Herencia (My Heritage). Released on the renowned label Smithsonian Folkways, the album received wide acclaim, from Songlines Magazine to Transglobal World Music Chart, for reinvigorating traditions.

Soulful and joyous, this is dance music with a message, covering subjects from the immigrant experience, diaspora issues, Black Lives Matter, and more. It’s party music created with a respect for traditions and an eagerness to bring new sounds together, from cumbia, rumba, rap, folk, funk, and more, all of which conspire to keep you moving.
