When Sunfest presents music artists, it does not matter if they are local, national or international;
however, they must be the ‘real deal,’ with world-class talent and an ability to connect deeply with
their audiences.
Award-winning London, Ontario songstress Sonja Gustafson is such an engaging artist, bringing
style, polish and grace to the jazz repertoire. Her traditional approach reflects an appreciation for the
forerunners of vocal jazz, treating both classics and lesser-known standards from the Great American
Songbook with cool verve and honest delivery. Gustafson is dazzling whether performing torch
songs, scatting with abandon, or crooning popular covers. Her collaborations with many of the Forest
City’s top jazz instrumentalists led to the release of two well-received recordings: her debut CD
Sonja Gustafson (2007) and a double Christmas CD titled Comfort & Joy (2010).

Sonja’s fans are often surprised to learn that she is also an accomplished classically trained soprano
with a Master of Music degree from Western University. She is a favorite with symphonies, choirs
and big bands alike, and since 1999 has been a soprano soloist in the prestigious music program at
London’s First-St. Andrew’s United Church. Sonja also runs her own opera company, Diva Lounge
Productions, which produces fully staged chamber operas.
