
Rommel Ribeiro is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer, lyricist and guitarist, based in Montreal since 2006, who stands out for his talent and versatility. Ribeiro was born into a family of artists and from an early age came to discover great Brazilian musicians like Gilberto Gil. Mixing elements of popular Brazilian music with Afrobeat, reggae, funk and jazz, he performs uplifting compositions in Portuguese, French, Spanish and English. In 2021, Rommel released his 6th album, Karawara, on the prestigious Brazilian label Biscoito Fino. It’s a tribute to the Indigenous peoples of the world, and their long struggles with regard to basic human rights and recognition. This recording also addresses the topics of ancestry, spirituality, and environmental and social issues, using music as a medium to disseminate messages of peace, hope, humanity, and compassion. Rommel’s many honors include the very first “Diversity Award” by the Arts Council of Montreal, and in a 2019 contest organized by Vision Diversity, the prize “Coup de Coeur – MUZ”.
