Rachel Therrien

Rachel Therrien is an innovative trumpet and flugelhorn player, composer and music producer working between New York City and Montreal. She is considered one of the most promising jazz musicians of her generation (Downbeat, All About Jazz, Radio-Canada), internationally lauded for her personal touch and the many influences she incorporates from the worlds of traditional jazz, Afro-Latin jazz and global music.

Rachel now has six recordings under her name – with many more to come! The most recent (2023) is MI HOGAR, an exquisite Latin jazz album recorded in New York City, Montreal and Toronto with 20+ musicians. Her previous (2022) ensemble release, VENA, garnered 2 nominations for Jazz Album of the Year at the ADISQ (Quebec) and the JUNOs, and received 4 stars from Downbeat Magazine. Rachel Therrien continues to be a major role model for emerging musicians on the Montreal jazz scene.

Rachel has presented her “Latin Jazz Project” in many different formats since 2009. After living in Cuba, studying at Havana’s Instituto Supérior de Arte, and savouring experiences with various Latin ensembles, Therrien founded her own project to showcase the music that she’s so passionate about. Irakere, Buena Vista Social Club, Dizzy Gillespie, and a Latin John Coltrane are some of the great artists that she covers.
