Centred around the wizardry of concertina player and electronic sound designer Pádraig Rynne, NOTIFY is a five-piece instrumental and vocal ensemble leading a new movement in Irish folk music. Incredibly forward-looking and stylistically adventuresome, yet deeply respectful of their past, the group breathes new life into Trad, with a musical tapestry that ranges from soft melodies to crashing crescendos. Their feasts of ambient melodies, traditional compositions, and groovy beats with layers of electronic sounds “don’t so much fuse as fizz” (Siobhan Long, The Irish Times) under inventive arrangements that NYC’s Irish Echo Newspaper describes as “cinematic in scope”. Along with concertina player Rynne, the ensemble is anchored by Cillian King (guitars & vocals), Eoin Walsh (electric bass), Davie Ryan (drums) and Cormac McCarthy (piano & keyboards).
NOTIFY’s self-titled debut album arrived in late 2013 and soon shot to #20 on the iTunes World Music Chart. The recording was well-received by the media and press worldwide and resulted in many high-profile TV and radio performances. In 2015, the band signed with the renowned American label Ropeadope, which released the sextet’s second album, In Concept, in April 2016. It too was an immediate success, debuting at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart. A year later, NOTIFY was commissioned by the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland to collaborate with Grammy Award-winning guitarist, Mark Lettieri of Snarky Puppy. Constantly evolving, these Irish young lions invited well-known singer Niall McCabe to join them on vocals and guitars for their 2020 performances.
