Raised in the sun-kissed Caribbean Islands of Guadeloupe and now based in Montreal, Grammy-nominated vocalist, songwriter and producer Malika Tirolien is an explosive mix of creativity, dedication and genuineness.
Malika has been garnering international attention for almost a decade, striking with her electrifying performance on “I’m Not The One,” a prime track on Snarky Puppy’s 2013 Grammy-winning album Family Dinner – Volume One. Malika’s sophomore solo album, titled Higher (Ground Up Music), showcases a new music genre called Highsoul, which mixes R&B, soul, hip hop and jazz to create the soundtrack of a psychedelic trip from anger to forgiveness. The singer describes the recording as “like a map through the world of somebody’s mind…a black woman struggling to find the right balance between being a warrior and, at the same time, wanting to cultivate her loving side.”
Malika Tirolien is also lead singer and co-leader (with mastermind producer and musician Michael League) of the supergroup Bokanté. The 9-piece band formed in 2016 and since then has toured in over 20 countries and released two critically acclaimed albums. The latest, What Heat (in collaboration with the Metropole Orkest), was nominated as Best World Music album at the 2020 Grammys.
