Born and raised in Chile, Akawui infuses his performances with a blend of salsa-cumbia and hip hop, influenced by Andean, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian music. Now based in Montreal, he continues to evolve as a singer-songwriter, drawing inspiration from his multicultural experiences.

Immersed in Latin American sounds from an early age, Akawui seamlessly merges the traditional folk from his Mapuche (Indigenous) culture with contemporary pop. He has connected to and collaborated with Indigenous artists around the world, in line with the message of his debut album El Futuro Es Tribal (“The Future is Tribal”). Anchored in folkloric tradition, his sound is rich in percussion, often led by the quena (Andean flute), while informed by modern sounds, creating a unique and powerful blend.

His music conveys an uplifting message, whether employing high-energy or romantic approaches, with the primary objective to break down psychological barriers and prove that it is through union that growth, as an individual or society, is possible.
