Montreal-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer Lionel Kizaba may have left the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2011, but as the guiding force behind his self-named quartet, he continues to serve as ambassador of the innovative and modern Congolese house music that we need to create an Afro-Futurist world.

Olga Carrasco Lepijina learned to play the chinchín (a unique bass drum-type percussion instrument popular with urban street performers in Chile) and she is part of the nearly 20 women who dedicate themselves to this expression of their folklore at a national level, participating since 2015 in the Transatlantic Ensemble of Chilean Folk, a musical group from the Valparaíso region.

Sonido Pesao is a band dedicated to original Latin urban music and founded in Montreal thanks to the union of three rappers: Rila (from Peru), Lunatico (from Guatemala) and Chele (from El Salvador). The group’s compositions energetically mix urban music, rap, cumbia and electronic elements, all supported by rhythms in tune with dynamic Latin American cultures around the globe.

Her sound is soft and sensual, shrouded in mystique and otherworldly energy. At the centre of an art scene concerned with reviving and disseminating African-Brazilian culture, this ‘force of nature’ has emerged as the voice of female empowerment.
