Jeremy Ledbetter Trio
The Jeremy Ledbetter Trio features three Canadian virtuosos at the top of their game: pianist and bandleader Jeremy Ledbetter (best known to TD Sunfest patrons as a member of Caribbean Latin Jazz powerhouse CaneFire), drummer Larnell Lewis (Snarky Puppy) and bassist Rich Brown (rinsethealgorithm). Forged in an interstellar collision of contemporary jazz and world music, Ledbetter’s compositions form a style that is truly organic and uniquely his own. His pieces for the trio format push the boundaries of jazz and world music, and provide an undiluted display of the astonishing musicianship of the band members. Ledbetter has made a career out of travelling the far-flung corners of the globe in search of the most fascinating and unique musical ideas out there, then seamlessly integrating them into his work.
Released in 2018, The Jeremy Ledbetter Trio’s debut recording Got a Light? is a controlled explosion of big musical ideas, stylistic variety, vivid colours and compelling musical storytelling. Jeremy says, “This album is about painting pictures and creating a cinematic atmosphere. It’s a contemporary jazz album that’s telling stories I hope everyone will be able to understand and relate to.”
Jeremy’s expertise in musical cultures is most evident in his production work across a wide range of genres. His most recent project, “Golpes y Flores” by Venezuelan songstress Eliana Cuevas, won him World Music Producer of the Year honours at the 2018 Independent Music Awards.
