AFROTRONIX

Influenced by contemporary jazz and pop sounds as well irresistible Brazilian rhythms like frevo, maracatu and baião, the band was assembled by composer, arranger & pianist Gabriel Nobrega and draws on the diverse backgrounds of its seven members who hail from different regions of Brazil. Piano, bass, guitar and brass join Brazilian percussion instruments such as caracaxá, ganzá, timbal, alfaia, gonguê & the tambourine and the blend is a new way, both elegant and exciting, to experience Brazilian music. Or as one online blogger put it, “Then Silibrina came on stage and blew the roof! Super nice Brazilian instrumental fusion with a great groove and musicianship!” The group debuted in August 2016, released its first album in May 2017, officially played South by Southwest in 2018 and, afterwards, did an American tour with shows at jazz houses like Elephant Room (Austin, Texas) and Nublu (New York City).
