Lorraine Klaasen is that rare performer who has preserved classic ‘Township Music’ (a fusion of marabi, American jazz and Zulu traditions), which continues to be the most distinctive sound associated with South Africa. Born & raised in Soweto, and now a resident of London, Ontario after spending many years in Montreal, Lorraine has electrified audiences around the globe with her dynamic stage presence and showmanship. Indeed, Lorraine was reputed to be one of Nelson Mandela’s two favorite singers (the other was her mother, legendary South African jazz artist Thandie Klaasen). Lorrain’s beautiful CD A Tribute To Miriam Makeba won her the 2013 JUNO Award for World Music Album of the Year.
