Originally from Lebanon, now living in Montreal, Lamia Yared is a wonderful young interpreter of Ottoman era music who was a major discovery of Mundial Montreal 2017. As a singer and oud player, she performs classical Arabic songs, known as the Muwashahat, and selections from the Turkish classical repertoire (Sanat Muzigi) as well as Sephardic songs and Greek traditional music of Asia Minor. Like great female Arabic singers of the past, she has a voice that not only has a big reach but is also extremely powerful. Her group of accomplished players, L’Ensemble Zaman, consists of Didem Başar (qanun), Nazih Borish (oud) and Nathaniel Huard (percussion).
