Quinn Bachand's Brishen

Victoria B.C.’s Quinn Bachand is an acoustic guitarist, fiddler, and vocalist who has already earned an enviable reputation as one of Canada’s most gifted young musicians. Super fiddler Ashley MacIsaac raves: “I have yet to meet anyone that is more creative, musically expressive and technically skilled”.  Although he records and performs in many different settings, Quinn is particularly celebrated for his work with Brishen.  The band’s demographic ranges from 21-year old Bachand to sixtyish bass player Joey Smith, hinting at a potentially wide audience for their inventive and intricate style, described as West Coast jazz manouche (Gypsy jazz).

American roots music expert Matt Glaser claims that Brishen’s sophomore release, Blue Verdun, offers a glimpse into a “psychedelic, kaleidoscopic musical world that you’ve never heard before”, unearthing “various epochs of pop music, film music, gypsy jazz, western swing”, while demonstrating Quinn’s “instrumental virtuosity on guitar and violin, storytelling, songs, amazing arrangements, and a dance band sensibility that almost sounds like it came from another planet.”
