Le Bal à l’huile

Le Bal à l’huile are a remarkable ensemble of seven Quebec singer/instrumentalists who remain faithful to the folk traditions of La belle province, yet add their own harmonic twist to that repertoire. Their name recalls the days of big kitchen parties in Quebec, when musicians and their neighbours would gather together around oil lamps to warm the night with plenty of music and merriment.

Even though Le Bal à l'huile was formed in 1998, it took until 2009 to record the group's first album Maudit que j’filais. Singing both a cappella and with instrumental accompaniment, Le Bal à l'huile are: Patrick Goulet (vocals), Jean Coupal and Isaël McIntyre (vocals, foot percussion), Normand Breton (accordions), Olivier Brousseau and Paulyn Lacroix (guitar, vocals) and Guy Breton (bass, vocals).  The group is distinguished by the quality of its vocal harmonization. Three singers give a unique color to the parts by answering the lead vocals of Patrick Goulet.

Pumped by the success of their latest album, the ADISQ-nominated T’en souviens-tu (2014), Le Bal à l’huile brings Sunfesters a show bursting with energy and joy. The album was recorded in the Lanaudière region, the cradle of Quebec folklore, featuring arrangements by Éric Beaudry (De Temps Antan, La Bottine Souriante). Le Bal à l’huile has an impressive stage presence and are recognized for their outstanding live show. Over the last few years, they have performed in many festivals across Quebec, Western Canada and abroad.
