"Keeping things soft and sultry, Diana Panton bridges the gap between Christmas and Valentine’s Day with the most romantic holiday songs she can muster. With a purr as smooth as whipped egg nog, Panton makes Christmas Kiss a sprig of audio mistletoe, backed by the light touch of her jazz trio" (Stephen Cooke, The Chronicle Herald).
Hamilton singer Diana Panton has quietly become one of the brightest lights on the contemporary jazz scene. Her work has been consistently praised by listeners and music critics alike for her ethereal vocals, exceptional song selection and heartfelt renditions. "Her diaphanous vocal sound never insists and her high speed vibrato is like the beat of a hummingbird's heart - natural, untainted and pure." (Lesley Mitchell-Clarke, Wholenote Magazine). Former CBC Radio jazz host Katie Malloch concurs: ¨Diana shows that you don't have to belt it out: she frames each song so perfectly for her voice. And she picks marvelous material!”
Diana’s impressive catalogue of internationally acclaimed albums has garnered numerous honours, including two Silver Disc Awards in Japan, three JUNO nominations, and a host of National Jazz Award nominations. Most recently, she was named one of Canada’s TOP 5 Jazz Vocalists by CBC Tonic host Tim Tamashiro.
To put Sunfesters in a festive mood this December, Diana and her top-notch accompanists (trumpeter Guido Basso, guitarist Reg Schwager and Don Thompson on piano and vibraphone) will be sharing songs from Panton’s 2012 JUNO-nominated album of Christmas favorites, entitled Christmas Kiss. Expect to hear a mix of well-known chestnuts, a few surprising seasonal gems and an original song written specially for the album. Diana says, “This is a great album if you would like to cozy up by a fire with some spiced warm wine and hopefully someone that you love.”
